Good Habits: Develop the Habits of Success

Are your habits providing the basis for your success or are they leading you on a path to failure? Although most of us never give our habits a second thought, they do play a role in whether or not we achieve our goals. Take a moment to think about the habits that you have. What are the things you do every day without really thinking about it? At first glance, are they conducive to your success or do you think they might be holding you back? Today we’re gonna help you identify your habits, both good and bad, and give you tips to help your good habits.

What are the habits of success?

The most important habits you should develop for your business are the habits of success. What are they?

Good habit: Working on your business

There’s a difference between working in your business and working on your business. When you work in your business it’s almost like you’re an employee. Working on your business opens you up to being accountable to your business. You’re the one responsible for your success. To lead a successful real estate business you have to commit to working on building it. This doesn’t include the tasks that you do as part of being a real estate agent, such as showing homes and going on listing appointments. Working on your business includes doing the activities that you need to do in order to generate more leads in your pipeline. Leads in your pipeline allow you to have a consistent stream of business.

How do you get more leaves in your pipeline? By staying in touch with the people in your database. This is where your Power Hour comes in. The more Power Hours you are doing a week, the more people you can reach out to. This connection allows you to stay top of mind so that you’re better able to serve them. Set aside an hour several times a week to work on your business. During the time log in to CircleCloser and connect with the people listed on your dashboard.

Good habit: Working on yourself

The second success habit to develop is working on yourself. Although many professionals know that they have to keep their skills sharp, many don’t set aside time to do what it takes to keep them sharp. Although they may do the required continuing education to keep their knowledge up to date, they may not participate in training courses that allow them to keep their soft skills sharp as well. Additionally, they may not set aside time for other personal development including reading or listening to audiobooks from business leaders. Growing your skills allows you to offer your clients and others in your database the best service you can. What sets the best agents apart from their competition is that they deliver the highest level of service. This means that you have to focus on always improving your skills, knowledge, and expertise.

How to develop the good habits of success

Schedule it

Although it may not sound exciting, scheduling time to work on your business and your personal development each day, or nearly every day, is often the only way to ensure that you’ll get it done, especially while developing the habit. Block out your calendar and make time to do your Power Hour as well as time to work on development. This way, you can ensure that you will get it done, with no excuses.

Be consistent

Consistency is the key to success. You have to be consistent in your actions in order to achieve your goals. While blocking your schedule to ensure that you get your most important activities completed is a start, the second part of the process is to make sure you do it and do it consistently. At first, it can be easy to dismiss activities, especially if you’re not used to doing them. However, when you consistently do them, over time it becomes much easier. Once you schedule your activities, be sure to follow through and consistently do them.

Check-in

When developing your habits of success it can be hard to stay motivated. One of the best motivators is to review your progress toward your goals. Take note of your progress before you begin to schedule time to work on your business and since you have made that time. It’s likely that you will notice an uptick in your productivity. Seeing this increase in productivity may provide the motivation that you need to help you stay the course and continue along the path of developing this habit. Just be sure to track your activities during your Power Hour.

Benefits of good habits

Right mindset

Your habits have an impact on your mindset. What you do every day has a bearing on how you look at yourself, your business, and your world. The better your habits, the healthier your mindset may be. Having good business habits can extend to other areas of your life as well. For example, if you are consistent in your business and doing your lead-generating activities, this consistency may spread to your health goals. You may begin to schedule your time to work out or do yoga or take a long walk. The time you spend reviewing and checking in with your progress toward your business goals may inspire you to review your financial goals.

Motivation

As we stated above, reviewing your progress and productivity as you have begun to establish good habits can provide the motivation that you need to keep going. Once you start seeing results, it becomes easier to buy into why you need to develop the habits in the first place. On those days when you just don’t feel like putting in the work, you can look at your results and be convinced otherwise.

Resilience

Having good habits also allows you to become more resilient. Challenges are a part of a business, no matter what business you’re in. Although some people may crumble when they experience challenges, the most successful people are able to rise above them. Part of this has to do with the good habits that they have cultivated over time. There’s not much you can control in life; however, one thing you can control is your habits. Your habits give you the sense of control that you may need to survive and even thrive in the face of challenges. No matter what happens you know that you can count on yourself.
