How to Prioritize Your Day

Do you want to get more out of your day? Although our time is limited it is possible to get more done each day. Think of the most productive people you know. They have the same amount of minutes as everyone does every day. However, it seems like they’re squeezing so many more activities than everyone else. No they haven’t been given a few extra hours each day to work with. It’s just that they haven’t mastered the most important skill in business: Prioritizing.

What is prioritizing?

Prioritizing is a skill we all know we need but we’re not sure how to improve it. It means that you do the most important tasks first so that they do not fall off your radar. You’ll complete your other tasks as well, but you’ll complete the most important things before you start on the rest of the list. For most of us, When we write out our daily to-do list, we just write down the task as we think of it. That’s a good start, however, the next step is to circle or put a star next to the one or two top priorities of the day. These are the tasks that you have to get done no matter what. They could even include a regular task that may fall off the list if you get busy, such as lead generation. Once you’ve pinpointed your two top priorities of the day, select the next most important priority. Continue this until you’ve ordered your list in order of priority. Once you’ve completed your top priorities, simply cross it off and move on to the next thing. It’s that easy!

How to nail prioritizing your day

Prioritize tip #1: Put your business first

Working on our businesses falls to the wayside when we get busy. After all, real estate is a time-sensitive business. However, generating leads is one of the most important things you can do for your business, even if you want to maintain the size of your database.

Luckily, generating leads is as easy as connecting with people in your database. Every time you connect with people in your database you build the relationship. That’s right, every time you reach out to say hello or check in or follow up, you are strengthening the foundation of that relationship. The challenge is making time to reach out. Connecting is such an easy task that, unfortunately, it’s the first to be moved to the back burner when we get busy. We often say that we will get to it the next day, or we promise that we’ll spend twice as long on it the next day or later in the week. However, in reality, we never get around to it. And for that, our business suffers.

The connections you make now become the business you’re working with later on in the year. That’s why it’s so important to make the time to work on your business now. If you want to thrive in real estate, connecting with people in your database should be a top priority.

Prioritize tip #2: Schedule day

One of the easiest ways to ensure that you get everything done on your list that you need to is to schedule it into your day. Think of it this way, if it’s in your calendar you’re much less likely to overlook it. After all, you’ll never miss an appointment, right? Working on your business is an appointment you make with yourself. It’s the time that you will spend on your business, no matter what. When you know how to prioritize it’s it’s easier to schedule your day.

One thing to put in your daily schedule is your Power Hour. This is an hour a day that you spend on your business, making calls, sending out follow-up emails, or otherwise checking in with your network. An hour a day is all you need to help ensure that you are lead pipeline is full.

But what if you can’t do an hour or at a time, do you just not do your Power Hour? Of course not! If time is a premium, then break the hour into smaller segments. Many professionals break their Power Hour into two thirty-minute blocks. If time is really tight, you can break the hour into fifteen-minute segments. There’s no excuse to not do your Power Hour. Although it may seem difficult to squeeze it in at first, over time, it will become another part of your day. It will become a habit like brushing your teeth or exercising daily.

Prioritize tip #3: Connect with the best people

Although with CircleCloser, you will connect with everyone in your database, our program is set up to allow you to connect with your best people more often. Your best people are the top advocates for your business. As you prioritize they should be at the top of the list. They’re the ones who sing your praises to everyone they know. They’re often the ones who are referring you most often. As a result, you probably get the majority of your business from these folks. Staying in touch with them makes sure that you stay top of mind so that they continue to think of you for all of their real estate needs.

With CircleCloser, you will contact your top advocates at least once a month. You may independently set up a time to connect with them if they have a question and you need to follow up. However, the program is set to allow you to connect with them at least once a month. That means each month their name will pop up on your dashboard to connect.

For this process to be the most effective be sure that you keep the rankings in your database up-to-date. Review them periodically to make sure that you are connecting with the right people at the right frequency.

Getting it all done

When you prioritize your day, you notice something magic will happen: You’ll be able to get everything done that you need to. No more moving important priorities to the next day because you don’t have time. You’ll know what your priorities are so that it’s easier to say no to the distractions that may arise throughout the day. You’re less likely to get bogged down in the small things and can instead focus on the bigger things that help to drive your business. You’ll feel more empowered because you’re able to get more things on your list done. This allows you to be of better service to all of your clients. And when your clients are happy with your service, they’ll continue to use you for all of their real estate needs and refer you to people they know. This is how your business will grow. It’s also how you’re more likely to stay in business even as the market fluctuates.
