Are You On Track to Reach Your Goals? Do a Goal Check-in

A few, short months ago, you set goals for the year. Now that we’re a few months into the year, it is a great time to check-in on your progress.

Many people set goals in January and don’t check in with them again until the end of the year. By then, they’ve forgotten what they’ve set, which defeats the purpose of having them to begin with. By the end of the year, it’s too late to achieve your goals if you haven’t given them another thought during the year. That’s why we encourage you to check in with your goals regularly. While ‘regularly’ can vary by individual, we recommend doing it a few times a year. That way, there’s time to correct your course if you’re behind.

What are your goals?

What goals did you set for the year in January? CircleCloser makes it easy to review your goals whenever you wish. They’re all there!

We realize that most people won’t read their goals every day. However, we made it convenient for you to check in on them periodically. Reading your goals not only keeps them fresh in your mind, it also keeps you connected to your motivation. What motivates you? Do you know your Why? Your Why is what drives you to succeed each day. It helps you get up in the morning.

If you’re not sure what your Why is, take a few moments to find it. Clear your mind and take a few deep breaths. Picture your life in five to ten years. What do you see, hear, feel? What’s around you? Who’s around you? List everything you see. What’s most important to you in this picture? Write everything down; that way you can refer to it at a later time. Now, what is your Why? Once you have it, write it down.

Keeping your Why handy will not only keep you motivated, it will also help you set goals in the future.

Assess how close you are to your goal

Once you have your goals in front of you, think about how close you are to achieving them. You may be far away now, but the key is to see if you’re on track to achieving it later in the year. If you’re using CircleCloser and have been tracking your activities, this should be easy. CircleCloser makes it easy to always know where you stand when pursuing your goals

Some questions to ask include:

  • Are you on track to reaching your goals?
  • What do you need to do to stay on track?
  • If you’re off-track, what should you do to get back on track?
  • Were the goals you set too easy, too ambitious, or just right?
  • Should you revise your goals to make them more attainable or challenging?

How to decide the next steps

The next steps you take after reviewing your goals will help to propel you toward achieving them. Although it’s still early in the year, it can provide insight to let you know if what you’re doing is working or if you need to step up your game in the coming months.

If you’re on track: Keep doing what you’re doing. Do your activities during your Power Hour and continue to consistently reach out to your past and current clients, new prospects, and more. And, be sure to follow up with them. You want them to think of you, even after the transaction has closed.

If you’re starting to veer off-track: Think of how you can improve your progress. What steps can you take to push you closer to your goals? Do you need to add another Power Hour or two to your week? Would that push the needle forward? Do you need to add more people to your network or close more transactions? This is your time to figure out how to correct course before you go too far off course.

There are many reasons people veer off-course. One is that the goals they set may not have been appropriate for their skills, knowledge, or experience. Sometimes we create goals that are too ambitious for what we can reach right now. That doesn’t mean you’ll never reach them, it just means that you may not have the skills or experience to do so just yet. If this is the case, it may help to dial it back and revise your goals to be in line with where you’re at right now.

Another reason is they experience a setback. Whether it’s an illness or something else that throws them a curve ball and throws them off course, many people can recover if they have enough time. Luckily, if you catch it this early in the year, you still have time to get back on track. You may decide to keep striving toward your goals and choose to add another Power Hour or two to get you back on track.

If you’re way ahead of schedule: That’s great! However, what it also shows is that perhaps your goals weren’t ambitious enough to begin with. You have two options: 1) you could cruise through the year and continue to do your activities at the frequency you’re doing them now, or 2) you could revise your goals and make them more challenging. What you decide to do is up to you. You could decide to keep doing what you’re doing because being ahead now insulates you, in many respects, from any unforeseen circumstances that may arise later in the year. Since real estate is cyclical, you won’t have to work as hard during slow times if you’re ahead of the game. Or, if you were planning on taking some time off later in the year, being ahead will relieve the stress of preparing your business for your absence.

Regardless of where you stand…

Keep doing your Power Hour. Whether you’re ahead, behind, or on track, keep doing your Power Hours. A Power Hour is an hour you spend working on your business, connecting to your buyers and sellers, following up with them and new clients, connecting with past clients, and committing to your business. It’s one of the most important things you can do for your business.

Commit to your goals. If you want to achieve your goals, it’s vital to check in with them consistently and regularly. After all, you can’t check in with them if you don’t remember what they are. Go to CircleCloser and read your goals from time to time. You don’t have to read them daily; just now and then to keep them top of mind.

Remember your Why. Your Why will not only connect you to your goals, but it’ll also keep you motivated, especially on those days when you’re just not feeling it. Your Why is the best motivation you need to keep you on track to reach your goals.
